What's up guys in today's video we're gonna talk about my favorite latest Ui design trend 2021 dark mode.

It's my mission to make you a better design and in this series We're taking a look at design trends for UX UI designers What's up guys jumping straight in I want to talk about my favorite design trend of 2021,

which is dark mode So I actually don't think this is a design trend. I think this is something that's come into the industry like responsive design It's changed the way everyone views a hump everyone views around how we design websites.

So with responsive design you don't design for one screen anymore you design for Phones you design for tablets and I think with dark mode, I think it might be the same I think you'll see a lot of big websites having a light mode in a dark mode So let's jump straight in let's check out Apple calm So this is something that Apple's been really like a key player in so you'll see the new iOS devices on mobile.

They've got dark mode you'll see OS X has got dark mode and you can see all the Apple watches wouldn't run with a black background and there's a couple of reasons why dark mode is so is so I kind of in on trend at the moment, but one of the key things is Developers have been using it for a while and because we use devices so much It's it's really strained on the eyes with the white background.

When you move it to black it just rests your eyes a little bit Like my eyes are ruined from use and computers for so long But with dark mode if you're use if you're on a computer for six seven hours a day That's why you'll see the matrix.

You know, it's got the black background and the green tax That's kind of like a copy of what develop developers terminals when those have looked like the years and that's kind of what you imagine developers to be working on and that's just because they're On screen for so long and they need things to stand out.

But Apple have introduced her in OS X I guess they're trying to help people like health is a big thing to Apple and that's something that they're trying to work on So that's just take a look about at this website.

We sleep poor So it's interesting that they've used dark move for the iPhone 11 Pro So Apple turns off this thing whenever they have Pro products they make them in like a black So you'll see that they have em the iMac pro which is the foreground iMac that's kind of in like a dark a much darker Growing the new MacBook Pros have gone for a dark space gray.

what dark mode is is essentially a flip reverse of a normal website?

so you'll have a black background with white text instead of a white background with black text and It just looks really slick I think black I think if you do it properly dark mode can be better than than than the light mode version I think a lot of people do a lazy version of a dark mode where they'll do like a button on the website Which I'll flip it but they won't changed any of the bottom colors or they won't change the photography and I think this works well because when you have a black background Nighttime photography just looks a lot better Photography with a black background instead of a white background like it just doesn't work with white background traditional product shots anymore.

It just looks nicer with the black shots and Let's look how powerfully that white iPhone stands out as well because it's got a black background that curves around It just looks great. I want to talk about colors as well.

So colors along with this dark mode trend this year We've got neon colors coming back into it and you know, you'll see nighttime shots of Tokyo Any big city of a nighttime? You'll see all these neon greens neon yellow is neon Pink's or standing out and that's just because they look great against a dark background whenever you see photos of crazy fish deep in the sea, sometimes you'll see them with neon colors and Avatar was was ahead at the time of those type of colors on the dark.

Moody neon forest but they're coming in and I think they just stand out so well against the background and one thing to bear in mind is if you Take another light website to making a dark version of it then change your button colors as well I'm just going to show you this I Think I've got a website somewhere where they've done So here's a version of a dark mode that someone's taking a look at Adobe XD

Latest UI Design trends 2021-dark-theme

So I always advise people guys if you've got nothing your portfolio and you you you wondering where to start just take a big website Take a big app like Adobe XD and redesign it take a website and redesign it. It's a lot easier than actually working in there You'd have to work with any managers You can just put your own spin on things and it just gives it gives the design mind you suffer to go by And take a look.

So this profile is talking about reading on like During the day that read them with a white background is better for concentration. However, nighttime is better so one of the cool things about Apple's OS X is you can you can get the Operating system to automatically swap it for you over night time Because you don't lots of studies and people read them at the blue light and it helps them sleep By making a dark.

So that's something that I'd check out and You can just see all these blues just and nothing mazing ly well against the background So just quickly I want to touch on the Apple watch so with the revolution in screen designs So towards OLED displays ole it's a technology which hands itself the dark mode

inherently so you'll see your new Apple watch series 5 and it's got a feature and always on this play and that was something that they couldn't achieve previously Because of the screens and because of the software, but how they've got around that imagine two workers There's a lot in part due to display.

So Apple Apple watch runs in dark mode so it's got a black background with white text and So here's a good example of it here.

So How OLED works is when you have black pixels are actually switched off and the screen is not putting out any power It's only putting out power for the color and white Pixels and so this example here you can see over 50% of the screen is actually switched off Because it's it's not using any power.

So what when you read in text messages or when you're looking at things like this ECG You're only really using like ten to twenty thirty percent of the screen and It's something that helps the battery long-term It's gonna be something maybe that will see in mobile devices a lot more to help boost battery life We don't need as much as in devices where the battery is limiting like a watch but it's definitely something from A technical point of view which is good.

It's also just good for our health. Which Apple is big on which is good So this example you can see they put the neon color as well.

I If you're working in a big company what you'll normally have you'll have a design language and that'll have our buttons fonts colors and what your poly need to do is your pod need to make a CSS update and change a dark mode version of them all and then you can just apply automatically to the website and I think it's cool when people choose You know Moody images to go along with a dark backgrounds nighttime.

I think it just that's the reason this Apple website works So well, I'll leave the link in the description They've just done it properly they've used You know look at these black and white images. They're so powerful on here the The low-light in on everything and then when you do get a white image, it's like whoa, it suddenly suddenly pops off the page But yeah, I think documents here to stay I think there's loads of reasons why I think we're gonna see more in operating systems and that's a sign that it's you know, It's it's here to say certainly it's not a trend like some indivi ones that were taking a look at in 2021
